type='text'>Pilates, Pilates, Pilates...</title><content type='html'>So, if you haven't already noticed (then you must be blind!), pilates studios are popping up all over Panama.&amp;nbsp; Which is good...and bad.&amp;nbsp; Any time something becomes a fad there's always the possibility people will take advantage of the opportunity and put together a facility with instructors who are quickly trained and have little to no experience.&amp;nbsp; On the other hand, it also brings to light those that are great and have just been overshadowed all this time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This past weekend I attended a Pilates Mat Instructor course with Linda Henriquez.&amp;nbsp; Linda is a Master Instructor with Balanced Body University with over 15 years of experience in Pilates instruction.&amp;nbsp; She is a wonderful pilates instructor and I have been referring my clients to her for a while now.&amp;nbsp; This was the first opportunity for me to see her as a teacher, and she was wonderful.&amp;nbsp; We are fortunate to have Linda here because she has begun teaching future pilates instructors so that we will have well informed instructors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was able to meet two young ladies who are teaching pilates for Evolution Pilates in Obarrio.&amp;nbsp; They both have training with a different organization but have chosen to attend Linda's instructor courses to further their knowledge and become better at what they do.&amp;nbsp; They are a breath of fresh air in Panama!&amp;nbsp; It was great to see their thirst for knowledge and the care that they have for their work.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Unfortunately, there are many out there who do not have the same care.&amp;nbsp; One of the attendees of the course spoke about her "instructor" participating in the pilates class that she was supposed to be teaching.&amp;nbsp; In case you weren't sure, this is a big no-no in my book.&amp;nbsp; You pay a pilates instructor to watch and guide you so that you exercise correctly and safely.&amp;nbsp; If they're not doing this, save your money, stay at home and watch a video.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Actually, the better alternative is to go see Linda (in Cardenas), or Andrea and Leyla at Evolution Pilates in Obarrio.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a type='text'>Back Extensor Strengthening Article</title><content type='html'>I was cruising through some journals, articles and blogs online and came across this blog about an article in a journal that I think I now love.&amp;nbsp; Boy, that was a mouthful.&amp;nbsp; Anyway, the blogger reminded me that we get carried away sometimes focusing all of our effort on abdominal strengthening and forget to strengthen our back extensors.&amp;nbsp; He posted the journal article which has some great information in it and easy to follow exercises.&amp;nbsp; I agree with the blogger about the journal being type='text'>Disc Sealant...New treatment being tested.</title><content type='html'>A client of mine was just talking about this today.&amp;nbsp; Why couldn't they come up with something that you can just inject into your disrupted disc that will seal it up.&amp;nbsp; Well, I was quite surprised to come home and stumble across an article talking about a company doing exactly that.&amp;nbsp; Spinal Restoration, Inc. is beginning human trials on their Biostat System which utilizes "a human derived, resorbable biologic tissue sealant" to seal the disrupted disc.&amp;nbsp; How cool is type='text'>Get up outta that chair!!</title><content type='html'>An article recently published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine discussed the harms of sitting.&amp;nbsp; I know, I know, we've all heard it before.&amp;nbsp; But, listen to this...recent research indicates that prolonged periods of sitting or inactivity can lead to a higher overall risk of death REGARDLESS of whether moderate or vigorous exercise is performed.&amp;nbsp; That suggests that sitting is more detrimental than exercise is helpful.&amp;nbsp; Don't think that exercising for one hour after work is going to balance eight hours of sitting in a chair.&amp;nbsp; Start motivating yourself to stand up and move around every 30 minutes and try adding more movement to your day.&amp;nbsp; Do some arm circles while you're reading those emails or walk around while you take that call from the boss.&amp;nbsp; Get up outta that chair!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a
